Head of Marketing

Thunderbird Releasing is looking for an experienced marketer to run the marketing department of an independent film distributor releasing around 20 films a year theatrically and additional titles on Home Entertainment platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the marketing strategy for each release and leading a team to deliver the campaign across revenue streams.

As a key member of the senior management team, you will need to network and build strategic relationships locally and internationally with key partners at festivals such as Cannes. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to acquisitions being considered.

You will have at least 5 years experience in either distribution or agency environment and a track record for leading a small team to succeed in a competitive environment.  

 

Thunderbird Releasing is an all-rights film distribution company based in London. Canadian media group Thunderbird Entertainment acquired established UK indie Soda Pictures in 2015, re-launching it this year as Thunderbird Releasing.

Releases this year have included TONI ERDMANN, A QUIET PASSION, MY LIFE AS A COURGETTE, A MAN CALLED OVE and the documentary DAVID LYNCH: THE ART LIFE.

Upcoming titles include Joachim Trier’s THELMA, THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS starring Dan Stevens, Warwick Thornton’s Venice competition title SWEET COUNTRY and VITA & VIRGINIA starring Gemma Arterton and Elizabeth Debicki, currently in production.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

Work closely with senior colleagues to develop strategy for each theatrical release

Create tailored marketing plans, delivered on budget and to deadline to include: a defined target audience, media plan, creative elements, promotional partners and grassroots outreach

Brief and manage agencies for originating or adapting the creative campaign

Deliver each campaign within the agreed P&A budget. Achieve the best possible balance between value for money and quality for each activity. Undertake ongoing evaluation of set budget

Forge a close working relationship with Publicity and Sales colleagues to achieve strategic goals

Keep up to date with marketing trends and suggest innovative opportunities when appropriate

Arrange promotional partnerships for each title

Adapt theatrical campaigns or create new campaigns for Home Entertainment market, including delivery of bespoke creative for DVD and VOD platforms

Plan promotional strategies across DVD and VOD platforms according to each channel's own capabilities and audience

Inspire and lead your team

 

Skills Profile

You should have experience of:

·      Creation of marketing campaigns including print and AV creative

·      Media buying across a range of media

·      Understanding of successful social media marketing practices

·      Experience of grassroots marketing

·      Knowledge of home entertainment marketing, including VOD

·      Strong organisational and communication skills

·      Experience of managing agencies

·      Exceptional time management and ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

·      Experience of managing budgets

·      Staff management experience
